Out fishing
Well, we headed out fishing in the Silent Ripple today. We were out there for a few hours in the morning and it was good for us. We didn't need to even worry about putting the sails up as it wasn't windy. Made for some good fishing though. We managed to catch a few crab, one ling cod, and a dog fish.

Since Last Time
Well, since my last post there has been many things keeping me busy throughout the summer. Which would probably explain why I haven't posted anything lately.
So I've been to Port Renfrew. On my birthday to be exact. There we stayed the night of July 19th and went fishing the day of the 20Th. We ended up getting 3 in by around 1pm. All which were over 20 lbs.
I've also been on a few little voyages with the Silent Ripple. All mostly fishing trips. One ended up being a very successive trip which included the Silent Ripples first ling cod of the season. It put up a bit of a hustle and was a good meal in the end. The rest of the day was sails set and let the wind lead our path.

Ganges Harbour
Well we just took a fun over nighter over to Ganges Harbour. We left the evening of Saturday July 5/2007. What a stormy night that was. The trip was a lot longer than expected and we didn't show up at the dock until 1:30am so unfortunately the bars were closed. We were able to wonder the streets and explore the harbour a bit before heading back to the boat for a good nights sleep.
The next morning we got up, paid our moorage and wondered the streets and stores. We left at around noon and got back to Goldstream Marina at around 7pm. It was a long trip but good and relaxing. Unfortunately for the way back we had no wind though so it was a little bit of a putt back but we made it alive.

Boating Season Here
Ok, it's been a long while since my last post. I have done a bit of work on my boat since but I have only been out twice. I will be going out much more now though now that the summer is here.
So far I have put some fresh coats of stain on all the wooded areas of the boat and I have installed a new stereo so this summer will be full of sailing with music.
I will be updating the pictures of the Silent Ripple very soon and will be keeping the stories updated as the summer moves on.
Be sure to check back for some more good boating stories.
But for now enjoy this funny boating clip from Caddyshack

Been a While
Well, it's been a while since I last posted on my blog here. So let me update you on the latest news with Silent Ripple.
I finally got her out on Sunday May 18, 2008. That was definatly good. I took my fiance, sister, and my sisters good friend out with me. My sister has been living in Australia for the past year so it was exciting to see her again. Now she's back over there for another year and will be coming out boating again next yeat.
We powered out for around half hour and ended up hitting a little breeze. At that point we were able to get the main and the genoa up for a good half hour of sailing. We had to cut the trip short though as we all had plans later that evening and had to be back on land. Either than that it was some good fun.

Easter Long Weekend
Easter weekend was fun. Went over to the parents house on Thursday night.
Friday we went on a tour of the new Gibsons arena where my dad's employees all had their kids over and were out for a skate on the new rink. So we were invited and happily went skating. Had the use of some brand new skates as the recreation center wasn't yet open and no one had ever used these skates before.
Both on Saturday and Sunday my dad and I went boating where we did some prawning and fishing. We had no luck with the fishing and prawning wasn't too great. Had enough to enjoy the taste but not enough to fill us up.
Monday was the day to head back home. Back to reality and back to work on Tuesday.

Visiting Folks
Well I just came back from Halfmoon bay on the Sunshine Coast of BC. Those ferry rides sure are something. It wasn't bad on the way. The two ferries connected alright. On the way back though I was left having to wait two hours after seeing the ferry I wish I could catch leave the terminal 5 minutes before my arrival from Langdale.
Anyway, it was fun no matter what. On Sat. me and the old man decided to go out boating to try out his new 130 hp Honda. After discovering it was a bit heavy for the transom I suggested a sandbag or two to keep it a bit more bow heavy. No matter anyway, we got out to our destination and dropped the prawn traps and decided to try our luck fishing. We only fished for a couple hours as it was a bit rough and a bit cold. Caught nothing in the process. Our attention was on getting prawns anyway. After a couple hours we pulled the traps. Not a bad catch as there was only 3 of us eating. We got around 50 prawns so it was enough for a meal. Unfortunatly though that was between 4 traps so when it's all put together it really wasn't the greatest of catches. It was a good meal when we got home anyway.
The next day (Superbowl Sunday) we consentrated on installing a brand new cd player and speakers into the boat. After accomplishing our goal within a couple hours we then went in to watch the super bowl on the big screen. What a game it was. Extremely close but New York came out as champions.
The next day it was back to the island for a bit of reality.

Back From Mexico
Well I'm back from Mexico. Lovely weather down there compared to here on the island.
We had a ton of fun for the past week. We had some Hobie Cat Catamarans that we were able to use all through out the week. They really are a whole lot different from the uno hull that I've got but I was able to get a hang of them and have just as much fun.
On the second day of being in Cancun we went on a Catamaran tour on a 30 some foot boat called the Albatros for a 20 minute sail to a reef just off of Las Mujeres for some snorkeling. We then stopped on Las Mujeres for around an hour for some shopping and then motored over to a restaurant on the same island for lunch. All was a lot of fun. Also, being a party boat we also got alot of free drinks. For $1 extra we were able to swim with a shark (nurse shark, nothing harmful) and get our picture taken which we did.
Anyway, I don't have any pictures to go with my stories yet as our camera went missing somewhere in baggage claim (I will be investigating where it went) so I will have to wait to recieve pictures from our friends. They will be home within another week as they decided to stay longer than us. Once I get those pictures though I will be posting some.

My New Slide Show
Well, I just recently added a slideshow of the Silent Ripple. You can see a few things that need to be shined up over the summer. I plan on purchasing some new flooring of some kind for her. I'm not quite sure what to get though. Any suggestions of what to put in would be helpfull.....first though I think I will be taking care of the more important things. She's got to come out of the water and have the hull washed. I'll have to double check the rudder and keal. Make sure everything is still in good condition. I'll also probably replace my plastic through hull with a metal one as I understand plastic isn't the best way to go.
If you have any ideas for me please feel free to email them with "boat repair" under the subject heading.

The Silent Ripple (Jan 1 2008)
Well, here she is. Like I said though, she's not the most beautiful boat. She's got the tarp over her now for the winter. I'll get a picture in the summer when she looks a bit better.
Baby Seal
We got this really close picture of a baby seal on the dock at Hakai Lodge in 2007.
